What is the Best Smart Flip Phone?

This question is simple enough but turns out to have no easy answer. There are actually several types of “smart” flip phones that you need to consider before making a purchase decision. For instance, some smartphone flip phones have “flip” displays that allow you to answer a call without opening the phone. Top Flip phones are.

1. LG Exalt LTE

The LG Exalt LTE doesn’t exactly feel like a traditional flip phone, but it is. The sleek handset has a larger-than-average touchscreen that flips open to reveal the 4.5-inch display within. It runs Android Marshmallow and features LTE / HSPA+ / CDMA connectivity on T-Mobile or Sprint plus WiFi 802.11b/g/n for internet access when out of range of a cellular signal. Inside you’ll find a 1.2GHz quad-core processor, 8GB storage and microSD expansion slot with support for cards up to 32GB in size, 5MP camera capable of 1080p video capture at 30fps, 2MP front camera and 2,100mAh battery good for up to 10 hours of talk time. It’s not the latest version of Android, but you won’t expect that with a phone that costs about half as much as an entry-level iPhone or Samsung Galaxy S8.

2. Kyocera DuraXv LTE

If you’re looking for something more rugged, the Kyocera DuraXv LTE is your best bet. The handset packs most of the same specs under its belt as the LG Exalt LTE — 4G LTE data / HSPA+ / CDMA connectivity on T-Mobile and Sprint, WiFi 802.11b/g/n, Android Marshmallow OS, 5MP camera capable of 1080p video capture at 30fps etc — but it comes in a far more ruggedized package. It’s dustproof, waterproof down to 1 meter for 30 minutes, drop-resistant from up to 4 feet and MIL-STD 810G certified. This means that if you’re looking for a rugged work phone or children’s phone that can stand a beating, the Kyocera DuraXv LTE is built to last abuse much better than a standard smartphone.

3. Samsung Gusto 3

Samsung isn’t going all out with its latest smartphones in terms of looks or performance, but it has an ace in the hole when it comes to pricing: With its signature rounded edges and smallish dimensions (4.92 x 2.41 x 0.5 inches), Samsung Gusto 3 is one of the few remaining flip phones for sale that is still aimed at entry-level buyers. The Samsung Gusto 3 comes with a 2.4-inch display, a 1,320mAh battery and a camera capable of capturing pictures up to 0.9MP in resolution (think VGA). You also get WiFi 802.11b/g/n connectivity and Bluetooth 4.1, while support for both T-Mobile’s HSPA+ and LTE bands means this smartphone can be used on any US carrier — you’ll want to make sure it works with your network before buying though!

4. Kyocera Urbano L03K

The Kyocera Urbano L03K isn’t exactly visually appealing but it is budget-friendly nonetheless. The phone is available for just below $100 through Boost Mobile, which makes it an ideal low-cost device for first-time smartphone users or budget-conscious consumers looking for a reliable, durable device. If you’re someone who needs access to apps like Instagram, Facebook and Twitter but doesn’t want to spend much on a new phone, this handset will do the job.

5. Kyocera DuraForce PRO

If you need an affordable phone that can take abuse and keep working regardless of its condition, look no further than Kyocera’s DuraForce PRO. This ruggedized beast comes with a 5-inch HD display protected by Gorilla Glass 3 (that can withstand drops from up to 6 ft), Snapdragon 810 processor, 13MP main camera, 8MP front-facing camera, fingerprint scanner and 3GB of RAM. The phone is MIL-STD 810G and IP68 certified so you can spill water on it and drop the DuraForce PRO in dirt or sand with no worries. You’ll also get up to 30 hours of talk time and two days of standby time.

6. Samsung Gusto 2+

Samsung’s Gusto 2+ is an improvement over its predecessor in almost every way: It sports a more attractive design, better specs (including faster data speeds) and better call quality. If you’re looking for your first flip phone or just want to replace your current one that has seen better days, this handset should make a good choice.
