If you need a charging cable, then any cable with the kind of connector would suffice. But the case isn’t the same in case you required a charge and sync cable. These are supposed to qualify Apple’s MFI certification. Apple has a unique way of identifying which cables are faulty and which ones are authentic. When you connect a wire which isn’t Apple MFI certified, then it is useless for sync. The problems are worse in case you use a MAC. Mac will not accept a connection from a faulty cable. I would suggest picking up the cable, which is Apple MFI certified. You can find them online, or the best is to pick it up from any apple store. Brands like Belkin and Capdase also make perfect lightning cables that are of better build quality for the price you pay.
Typically the cable cost’s around 1500 rupees for an authentic one. The sad part is you can differentiate the cable by just looking at them. Please buy it from a reliable source or any online store which offers hassle-free returns in case the cable doesn’t work.
Do Lightening Cables Stop Working?
If you take care of the cables, they will last forever. I work with a lot of folks in the video and audio fields supporting significant conference events. They come in like roadies at a rock concert and set up and break down a tremendous amount of gear all interconnected by cabling. These folks wrap their cables in loops and for things like microphone cable in a forward and reverse looping method that allows them to throw the cable flat on the floor while holding one end. They secure them with velcro when they coil them back up. They always have spare cables, but when you treat cables correctly, they should last many years. All of these workers handle the wires the same way with care.
Grab the connector housing and remove it properly instead. Coil the cables to reduce crimps. Then wrap them to avoid getting them tangled. Avoid letting the cables tangle and snagging on some obstacle and then yanking on it to free it.
How To Be Careful?
You can tell you have a shorted connector if the gold bar portion is entirely black, there may even be a scorched part on the white surrounding the gold conductors. These connectors are prone to corrosion if exposed to liquids, and the gold plating can fall off. These things are most likely to happen in your car but could also occur on a messy desk.
This goes for laptops. I support thousands of computer users. Most treat their notebooks with some respect while others abuse their computers to the extreme. Dents, dings, scratches, cracked screens, worn hinges, absolutely filthy to the point a technician will put on latex gloves and a can of compressed air and use disinfecting Lysol / alcohol wipes before they even touch it. I’ve yet seen some infected with ants and roaches.
Talk about tossing it in a sealed bag and putting it on the loading dock in a hurry then surrounding it with a ring of Black Flag roach barrier nerve agent. “Where’s my laptop?”, it’s on the loading dock infested with roaches. You’re lucky we didn’t burn it with fire! Yuck! If your laptop is dirty, please clean it before you bring it in for repair. If you need advice on how to clean a computer the correct way please ask.
